Ik ging op zoek naar een sporthorloge en eindigde met een spreadsheet.
Garmin Forerunner 265 voor € 499. Apple Watch Ultra 3 voor € 899. Polar Vantage V3, Suunto Race, Coros Apex 2. Ik had een budget van rond de € 500 en probeerde uit te vogelen welke het echt waard was.
Toen viel mijn oog op een horloge waar ik nog nooit van had gehoord, met specs die op een typefout leken. 5 sensoren. Dual-frequency L1+L5 GPS. MIL-STD-810H. Tot 7 dagen batterij voor € 119,99.
Ik bestelde de Gard Pro Ultra 3 en verwachtte het addertje te vinden.
Dat vond ik niet. Hij zit nu 4 maanden om mijn pols. De spreadsheet is sinds week 2 dicht.
Op papier gaat de Forerunner 265 zo'n 13 dagen mee in smartwatch-modus. De mijne haalde er 9 als ik geluk had. De Apple Ultra 3 doet in de praktijk ~42 uur, dus die hield ik elke nacht aan de lader.
De Ultra 3 gaat bij normaal gebruik meer dan een week mee op één lading met normaal gebruik. Zet je de energiebesparingsmodus aan, dan rek je dat op tot 90 dagen. Ik laad hem zondagochtend op terwijl ik koffie zet en denk er de rest van de week niet meer aan.
"Rugged" wordt op elk sporthorloge geplakt, ook op exemplaren die al breken als je ertegen ademt. MIL-STD-810H is anders. Het is een teststandaard van het Amerikaanse ministerie van Defensie. 29 benoemde tests. Kou, hitte, stof, regen, trillingen, vallen, de hele riedel.
De Apple Ultra 3 heeft het niet. De Forerunner 265 ook niet. De Ultra 3 wel. Na een werkdag spoel ik hem gewoon af met de tuinslang.
Even de specs op een rij: versnellingsmeter, gyroscoop, kompas, barometer, hartslag, SpO₂, bloeddruktrend, ademhalingsfrequentie, omgevingslicht en dual-frequency L1+L5 GPS. Dat is dezelfde GPS-configuratie als die van de Forerunner 965. De 965 kost € 649.
De rest is wat je verwacht: hartslag, slaap, stress. Geen medische diagnose, gewoon een dagelijkse wellnesscheck van wat er in je lichaam gebeurt.
Dit stond niet in mijn spreadsheet, maar het bleek toch belangrijk. De eerste week dat ik hem droeg, vroeg een collega of het de nieuwe Garmin was. Toen ik vertelde wat ik had betaald, dacht hij dat ik een grapje maakte.
Aan je pols oogt hij als een sporthorloge van € 500. Geborstelde bezel, 1,43" AMOLED met 1000 nits en helder genoeg om in fel zonlicht af te lezen.

Wat ik wilde checken voordat ik op kopen klikte: is dit een echt bedrijf dat een garantie van 2 jaar nakomt?

The watch is great when comparing it to the Apple ultra top spec which I still use. The Gardpro is literally plug and play, battery life is amazing, highly recommend it for those looking for a time piece that pretty much covers everything a smart watch should. Subtle difference in the calorie measurement though, seems to tally less than the Apple does. Suppose it could be down to settings and config etc… either way great product. Need more watch faces to choose from..

I bought this watch for my wife because I was so impressed with my own. My wife has several medical issues that require her to monitor her BP, heart rate and body temperature at regular intervals. This watch is for my teenage son and he loves it. He says it has long battery life. He checks his text messages, measures his workouts and progress, and says it fits well. Delivery took a little longer than I was expecting but that wasn't a big deal.
The watch is of a very good build quality, it looks sleek and premium. Super easy to set up and the battery (so far) is amazing as I have not had to charge it yet and it's been nearly three weeks! I would certainly recommend as I personally can't justify the prices of the 'branded' smart watches but with this one you dont need to. Loads of features and all working well.
